This column provides quick filtering and brand owner insights to help you make data-driven decisions.

To refine your keyword strategy, you can apply filters to display:

  • Branded Keywords – See keywords linked to specific apps.

  • Generic Keywords – Focus on non-branded terms for broader discoverability.

Understanding Keyword Types: Brand vs. Generic

The Keyword Type column classifies search terms as either:

  • Branded Keywords – Search terms directly associated with a specific app or company.

  • Generic Keywords – Common search terms not tied to a specific brand.

This classification is essential for metadata optimization, competitor targeting, and brand protection. Misusing branded terms from another app in your metadata can negatively impact your rankings while identifying your own brand keywords ensures better visibility and defense against competitors.

The Branded Keywords will appear with a highlighted B, which you can hover over to see to which app it belongs.

The Generic Keywords will appear in a grey tone G when you hover over the type column.

For any keyword type, you can click on "Report incorrect type" if you find a wrong keyword, and you can submit it as:

  • Generic

  • My brand

  • Other brand

Our team will then look into this request and analyze the keyword.

Why Branded / Generic keywords matter

  • Protect your brand: Ensure your app ranks for its own branded terms.

  • Avoid ranking penalties: Excluding competitor brand terms from metadata prevents visibility issues.

  • Improve ASO strategy: Balance branded and generic keywords for optimal ranking potential.

  • Smarter competitor targeting: Identify weakly protected competitor keywords and adjust your strategy.
